Nursery Policies
Here at Little Stars Nursery we have an open door policy which enables you as parents to come and see what we are doing at any time, or to see your child's records.
To view all our policies and procedures don't hesitate to ask a member of staff. Our staff will be happy to show you the folder which is located in the office. This folder holds lots of policies and procedures. Here is a list of some of the more important ones.
- Health & Safety
- Fire Safety
- Child Protection
- Staffing
- Facilities
- Aim and Objectives
- Working with Parents
- Trips and Outings
Admission Procedure
When a placement is confirmed we offer a free session to help your child settle in. Although sometimes it takes longer every effort is made to make a child's transition into Nursery as easy as possible.
When a new child is admitted to the nursery there are several steps we use. We assign a key worker to each child and they work one to one with that child for their first day getting the infant familiar with staff, sounds and environment, they will also have a box allocated to store their belongings and if under 12 months a sterilising box.
Settling in New Children Policy
On your child's first day you will be encouraged to stay with your child if necessary. This will give you and your child a chance to get to know staff. Staff spend extra time with new admissions helping them to adjust to their new environment. You will be shown where your child's belongings go and also round the nursery. You are encouraged to phone the nursery at any time during your child's stay to see how they are settling in.
Behavior Management Policy
It is our policy to promote good behaviour and manners at all times, we do this by rewarding good behaviour with praise and fuss and discourage disruptive behaviour with distraction and explaining to a child why this behaviour is not acceptable, at no time is physical punishment or humiliation used at Little Stars Nursery.
No Smoking Policy
In the interests of the children, parents and staff at Little Stars operate a no smoking policy. We ask all visitors to respect this.
Sickness Policy
If a child becomes ill while at nursery every effort will be made to contact the parents who will be requested to collect their child as soon as possible. Children who have a contagious illness should be kept absent from nursery until a doctor has confirmed that it is safe for them to return. Children suffering from sickness and/or diarrhoea should not return to the nursery until 48 hours has elapsed since their last bout and are eating normally. Please inform the nursery manager if you child is unwell and unable to attend nursery.
We ask all parents to respect this sickness policy to avoid unnecessary spread of illness to other children, parents and members or staff.
A medication consent form must be completed granting us permission to administer medicine to your child should we see fit. We will endeavour to contact parents should this be the case.
If you have a problem or complaint.
It is our aim to provide the very best standard of care for your little one, however if you are unhappy or dissatisfied with any aspect of the service we offer at our Nursery, then there is a chain of people to speak to who will hopefully be able to help. These are firstly the Manager; if it is not resolved then you speak to the owner Sheila Gilmartin. If you can't resolve the issue within the nursery you need to speak to:
